MICRODOTTING TO BECOME COMPULSORY FOR NEW VEHICLES FROM JANUARY 2011
At the National Vehicle Crime Forum of 2 june 2010, the South African Police Services announced that microdots will become compulsory for:
All vehicles registerd for the fist time in South Africa on or after 01 January 2011
All vehicles which the South African Police Service (SAPS) allocates a new VIN on or after 01 January 2011
All vehicles imported into South Africa on or after 01 January 2011
On request of the SAPS, the Minister of Transport will publish regulations in terms of the National Road Traffic Act (Act 93 of 1996) to this effect. Mr. Fouche Burgers of Business Against Crime South Africa (BACSA) has confirmed that SA's Microdotting Standard (SANS 534-1) is currently been revised in anticipation of the publication of the regulation amendments.
The passing of this legislation will result in a significant increase in demand for the Veridotting of both new and used vehicles.
